Designing the Next Generation of Wireless Audio
How we helped Sennheiser drive adoption of a groundbreaking RF microphone system through interaction design.
Notation Service: Interaction Design
Client: Sennheiser
Year: 2020 - Ongoing
Spectera is Sennheiser’s latest wireless audio system—built on breakthrough RF technology and controlled through the new LinkDesk software. Designed for live audio professionals, the system demands precision, speed, and confidence. We were brought in to design the interaction model for LinkDesk, ensuring that audio engineers can easily integrate Spectera into their existing workflows through an intuitive, usable interface.
Design Challenge
We support Sennheiser in solving three core challenges. Each of those challenge demanded close coordination with engineering, fast iteration, and continuous grounding in real user workflows.
Building their first large-scale UI system amid process uncertainty,
Design an interface for a complex hardware system.
Figuring out how users can navigate and control this Spectera easily, balancing simplicity and complex technical requirements.
Solution
Working closely with the product management and development team at Sennheiser, we designed the full interaction model for LinkDesk and contributed to the Spectera hardware ecosystem. Through rapid iteration, embedded feedback loops, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, we helped Sennheiser deliver a cohesive user experience—enabling confident adoption and setting the stage for long-term digital transformation.
«Notation has an outstanding eye for UI design and excels at embracing customer thinking.»

Process Insights
User Research
We led foundational user research and usability testing to build shared understanding across teams. Field research revealed real-world workflows and informed every design iteration. Early validation—such as testing alternate audio routing flows—helped Sennheiser align technical possibilities with practical, usable outcomes.
Flow Design & Wireframing
Our UX approach translated complexity into clarity. We mapped workflows to user mental models and drove visual cohesion across system states.
Development Support
Throughout software development, we collaborated closely with engineering and product teams to solve technical constraints without compromising the user experience.
